About the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Florida
Founding Members are Mustapha Baksh, Lee Bell, Nan Kanhai, Michael Joseph, David McLean and Mark Modeste.
In December 1990, rapid changes was occurring in Florida, especially the formation of organizations to represent some of the larger countries. Noting that the local Caribbean community was rapidly growing, Mustapha Baksh suggested forming a chamber of commerce to represent Caribbean small businesses and professionals which could accommodate and advance the commercial, professional, civic and general interests of its members. He thought that such an organization could also facilitate Florida Businesses wishing to do business in the Caribbean.
With the support of many enthused Caribbean –American businessmen, Mr. Baksh approached the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce to help draft the necessary documents and getting the organization incorporated. Over the course of the next month, the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Florida Inc. was officially formed and legally incorporated in January 1991.
The Chamber strives to improve relations among all groups and businesses in Florida and throughout the Caribbean region. This is achieved with group exchanges, workshops, seminars and generally acting as a conduit to facilitate business development in the Diaspora. Over the years we have developed strategic alliances with local government in Orange county and the Consular Accord in Miami. We have hosted Government ministers from the Caribbean, facilitated meetings with Fortune 500 companies and assisting in Disaster relief when we are needed by our host Caribbean countries.
